I'm confused as to why these things aren't common sense to other women. Can you explain it to me objectively?
Questions like what are my options if we are infertile, will my cycle being longer or shorter affect things, will this or that affect my baby's development, when's the best/most likely time to get pregnant, and what are signs of labor. These kinds of questions confuse me especially if these people know what the problem is by speaking with a doctor. Do doctors just not care enough to let you know what your options are, or what signs to look for? Why wouldn't you ask your doctor while you are there? And is it just me, or do most women not KNOW that the best thing to do when considering having a baby is to see a doctor, to make sure everything is ok with you and your partner, to start making lifestyle changes that will help you get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy. I understand the women who aren't planning on getting pregnant, but those who are trying? I'm trying not to be condescending, and I know that I've made my share of mistakes, i'm just wondering why it's not common sense.
Being pregnant, especially for the first time, is an exciting but scary experience. No matter what you read is supposed to be normal, or what the doctor told you, there is nothing like the reassurance of another mom who has been through the same thing.
And yes, we should all be as informed as possible and ask the doctor about anything we don't understand. But the fact is that in early pregnancy, visits are only once a month. And when you have a question, that month in between can seem like an eternity. And no one wants to feel like a nuisance calling the doctor with every little weird thing we wonder about.
Sometimes, in the excitement, we may forget a question we meant to ask. It's easy to do, especially since alot of doctors try to rush you in and out, and not all of them have the ideal bedside manner that makes us feel comfortable.
As far as the big questions about fertility, infant development, etc-some people are just looking for every option. For example-my doctor and your doctor may have totally different approaches to the same problem. New treatments for conditions are only utilized by some. They may have already asked their doctors and are just looking for personal experiences before seeking a second opinion. No matter why they are asking these things, I kind of think that's the point of this whole website.
WHy are people asking about a cracked foundation on their house in a home improvement section here instead of calling a contractor?
